The herb that helps support a natural hormonal balance in menopausal women.
The Black Cohosh herb is a North American forest plant whose root was traditionally used by American Indians for a variety of medicinal purposes. In over 40 years of extensive research, Black Cohosh has been shown to have estrogen-like effects through its ability to bind estrogen receptors and lower luteinizing hormone levels. It is this action which is believed to provide optimum comfort during a women's menopausal years of life. It is also used for post-operative functional deficits following ovariectomy or hysterectomy, for the treatment of premenstrual syndrome, and for juvenile menstrual disorders.
The German Commission E cites evidence for efficacy in the use of Black Cohosh for dysmenorrhea or painful menstruation. There are reports of the use of Black Cohosh in treating rheumatoid and osteoarthritis, fevers, mumps, epilepsy, cough, as a sedative, and in the treatment of snakebite. Black Cohosh is often used in therapeutic herbalism for various types of pain, including headache, and joint and muscle pain associated with smallpox and measles, cramps and spasms.
