300 - 1000mg tablets! Vitamin C is an essential part of our diets. Essential for tissue growth and repair, the formation of collagen, adrenal gland function and healthy gums.
Vitamin C is one of natures most important antioxidants. The human body does not manufacture or store vitamin C. Since it is also easily destroyed in foods during cooking it has to be replenished on a daily basis. It is also used up more rapidly at times of stress, excitement, physical activity and even extreme temperature changes. Getting the suggested 200mg to 1,000mg a day from food is difficult. One 8oz glass of orange juice from concentrate has only 100mg of Vitamin C. Every day, researchers find new indications for vitamin C as a major factor of good health. It has antioxidant benefits and promotes healthy gums and capillaries due to bioflavonoids. It is vital to the body for the production of collagen - a connective material in body tissues, and it helps absorb iron. Vitamin C also provides optimum immune health.
Recent studies have found that Vitamin C and vitamin E work together synergistically, that is, when they work together they have a greater effect then they otherwise would on their own. For instance, Vitamin E scavenges for the dangerous oxygen radicals in the cell membrane, while Vitamin C breaks the free radical chain in the biologic fluids.
Vitamin C protects the body from harmful substances such as pollutants, bacterial infections, and cancer. It enhances immunity.
What is Vitamin C for?
Some of the possible benefits of Vitamin C include:
Powerful Antioxidant
Lower bad (LDL) cholesterol/Increase good (HDL) cholesterol levels
Ease upper respiratory ailments such as asthma, bronchitis
Decrease the risk of cancer
Decrease recovery time related to injuries, surgeries, etc.
Vitamin C (L Ascorbic acid) is a water soluble vitamin that has many amazing benefits.
plays an essential role in the manufacture of collagen
helps repair damaged tissue
is a powerful antioxidant
helps the body absorb more iron
plays a role in the production of hemoglobin and red blood cells
keeps teeth and gums healthy
helps heal wounds and broken bones
boosts immune function
Muscle Damage Three studies evaluated the effects of Vitamin C supplementation on muscle damage following exercise. It appears that higher doses of Vitamin C (800 milligrams/day to three grams/day) may have some benefit in reducing muscle soreness and damage following exercise. However, lower doses (200 milligrams/day) have little benefit.
Common Colds
Some nutritionists have called Vitamin C the cure for the common cold. Although it does not cure the common cold, numerous studies have shown that Vitamin C is effective in reducing the severity and the duration of the common cold. One study showed Vitamin C reduced the duration of the cold by 21%, and another found Vitamin C reduced the severity and length of respiratory infections in a group of marathon runners.
Anti Oxidant one of vitamin Cs important functions is to protect LDL cholesterol from oxidative damage. (Only when LDL is damaged does cholesterol appear to lead to heart disease, and vitamin C may be one of the most important antioxidant protectors of LDL.)1
The antioxidant properties of vitamin C are thought to protect smokers, as well as people exposed to secondhand smoke, from the harmful effects of free radicals. A controlled trial demonstrated the ability of 3 grams of vitamin C, taken by non-smokers two hours prior to being exposed to cigarette smoke, to reduce the free radical damage and LDL cholesterol oxidation associated with exposure to cigarette smoke.3 The smoke-induced decline in total antioxidant defense was also diminished. These beneficial effects were not observed in non-smokers under normal conditions (no free radical exposure).
Recommended Dosage: Adults take one tablet daily as a dietary supplement.
Notes: Alcohol, smoking, and some medications such as oral contraceptives, analgesics, antidepressants, and steroids can cause serious deficiencies of vitamin C. Iron absorption is increased when taken with vitamin C. Calcium and manganese supplements decrease the excretion of vitamin C and may increase its uptake.
