Alternatives to Antibiotics

A Feel 21, Inc. Health Report

In the 1940's and '50's, miracle drugs such as penicillin spoiled doctors and patients into thinking a few pills could be a cure-all for infections. But half a century later, scientists are snatching the lollipops away - after finding that because antibiotics have been widely over prescribed, many of the bacteria in our bodies (estimates run to 80 percent) now resist common antibiotics, such as sulfa drugs and tetracycline.

Aside from the growing immunity that bacteria enjoy, antibiotics have another damaging effect on the body. Antibiotics disturb the normal internal flora that carryout normal body functions, especially in the colon. There are times when taking antibiotics is necessary, but antibiotics are ineffective against viral infections and can even make the symptoms worse.

There are alternatives, known as natural antibiotics, that don't harm the body's normal functions or inhibit it from fighting its own battles. In fact, antibacterial agents such as garlic, echinacea, goldenseal root, bee propolis, olive leaf oils, neem extract, tea tree oil, and grapefruit seed extract help strengthen the body's immune system, don't harm normal flora, and can act as anti-inflammatory, antiviral and antifungal agents.

Other options include a bio-bifidus supplement that replaces bowel flora to improve assimilation of nutrients from foods; or ionic silver, a natural antibiotic disinfectant that destroys bacteria, viruses, and fungi, and promotes healing.
